Just 25 minutes from the centre of Chester, Carden Park is a real gem of a hotel with the most wonderful, lush grounds and views.
I stayed here recently following the Chester Races and admittedly simply wanted a comfortable night’s sleep before heading off to London the next day.
However, my plans took a turn for the better when I checked-in and following a divine sleep in possibly the most comfortable hotel bed I’ve experienced, decided NOT to rush back. The rooms (we were in a twin) are a great size, with gorgeous, tasteful furnishings in muted colours – no chintz! The bathroom was impressive – a power shower with really good water pressure, fab Espa toiletries and genuine, cotton fluffy towels and robes.
A good sleep can truly transform not only our mood but our all over physical energy and after a superb breakfast in the hotel’s dining room, my friend and I decided to kick back and immerse ourselves in some Carden Park hospitality – such was the relaxed ambience and friendly atmosphere (we really didn’t want to leave).
Carden Park already has a very lovely and substantial spa, complete with indoor pool. However, we learned that later this year, the hotel will be opening a state of art spa including heated outdoor pool and hot tubs, alongside a tray of the very latest in pampering.
I decided to enjoy the hotel’s steam room, heated loungers and took a swim in the pool. My friend opted to melt away her stresses in the sauna and take a long swim too. Afterwards, we had an appetite again and enjoyed lunch in the very elegant library lounge – an equally pretty orangery area is next door with lots of natural light too – we really were spoilt for choice.
Often with hotels, it is the service that gives them that ‘I must return’ here memo to self. And this beautiful Cheshire estate hotel has excellent service and a warmth and friendliness that made us feel literally at home.
